Ethical Dilemmas in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence: Maneuvering the Intricate Terrain of Accountability and Equity
Keywords:
Algorithmic Fairness, Fairness-Aware Ma-chine Learning (FAML), Responsible AI DevelopmentAbstract
The swift progression of data science and artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed decision-making in various sectors, including healthcare, banking, and law enforcement. Nonetheless, these developments present significant ethical dilemmas, including algorithmic prejudice, data privacy concerns, and insufficient openness. This study rigorously examines these ethical issues, emphasizing cutting-edge technologies for bias detection, explainable artificial intelligence (XAI), and privacy-preserving strategies. We provide a comparative analysis of ethical frameworks, encompassing the ACM Code of Ethics, IEEE Ethically Aligned Design (EAD), and regulatory policies such as GDPR and CCPA. We elucidate the real-world ramifications of unethical AI with comprehensive case studies on biased employment algorithms, risk assessment models in criminal justice, and data privacy issues in smart technology. Additionally, we advocate for a systematic methodology to address bias, using fairness-oriented machine learning, adversarial debiasing, and adherence to regulatory standards. Our research enhances responsible AI governance by delineating optimal practices and technology solutions that foster justice, accountability, and transparency in AI-driven systems
